Skin tags are growths that range in size from a few millimetres to 5 centimetres. They may be flesh-coloured or brown, hang off your skin’s surface, and are composed of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels covered by skin. They can resemble warts or raised bumps. Skin tags are common, and though some people may find them unsightly, they are entirely harmless. They typically do not cause any pain or discomfort. But they can get caught on clothing or jewelry and end up bleeding. Not to mention, they can also reduce your self-esteem.
What causes skin tags?
Both women and men can experience skin tags. Most commonly, they form in areas where the skin creases or folds (such as the neck, armpits, groin area, or under breasts). People who are overweight tend to get them more often because of this. If you have family members with skin tags, you may be more likely to get them. People with type 2 diabetes or who are pregnant also tend to develop skin tags more often than others, while some people can develop them for no particular reason.
